True Life Story of a Boxers Fight For Life
George Foreman:
- Heavyweight World Boxing Champion.
- A 76-5 record as a professional
- Olympic Champion 1968
A boxer whose fists of thunder were as bad being viewed from ringside as they were on the receiving side in the ring.
As a youngster he was a bully with a chip on his shoulder. Anyone who got in his way soon discovered that he had something to prove. Boxing was a natural for him.
Even with being the World Heavyweight Champion and the best things that come with fame and fortune he had an intense emptiness that brought a sharp, deep grief inside that kept peace ever evasive.
March 17, 1977 his life changed forever. A change that made George the man he really is.
A few days before this, his life had been looking good. He was on the way back after losing his title to Muhammad Ali a few years before.
He was ready and wanting this fight against Jimmy Young. This would be a set up for a rematch title fight.
With all this good stuff happening for him, this bad man of the ring still had a defenceless struggle with the champ inside him called emptiness.
For some reason, only known to him, while standing on the balcony of his luxury hotel, he once again prayed to a GOD that he wasn't sure even existed. "GOD, maybe you can take my life and use it. Maybe you can use me as something more than a boxer."
That same night he lost the fight to Jimmy Young. With it went everything. The bottom came up at him like the mat did for any opponent of George's did when he had the pleasure of receiving a KO punch from him.
It was some years later that he spoke about what happened that night with David Mainse on 100 Huntley Street.
" I had just fought a fight with Jimmy Young.... just a decision, it wasn't a tough fight or anything.
After I found out I had lost, I went back to the dressing room.... just a normal cooling off. And let me tell you business picked up for me there.
I had always prayed to GOD, I believed there probably was a GOD somewhere, and I'd always said, ' No matter what, everybody got their own religion, as along as they treat people right it's okay.'
But when I left that dressing room I was screaming the name of JESUS."
When George had first entered the room he paced back and forth, obsessed with thoughts of his future, about GOD, about death.
This inner conflict and turmoil exploded into a frenzy and left him lying on the floor with GOD speaking to him through visions. (pictures or dream like experience while awake.)
"I was snatched out of my body, and I don't know if you've ever been to sea.... as far off as you can see there's nothing but water.
Well as far off as I could see there's nothing but people coming out, in something like a trap. And I know this is hell, but I said, 'I don't care if this is death, I still believe in GOD.'
Then I was snatched right out of that place and taken to another place of life and back into my body. I started screaming, ' That's alright, I'm dying for GOD.'
And so as I was sitting there I was snatched into all kinds of religions and brought back into the dressing room. I didn't know what was going on!"
Mainse asked, "So you thought you were dying?"
" I saw death..... I saw it! I mean I had built my whole life on real estate.... what I had in the bank, and I saw it all like a big joke.
If you stick a match to a piece of paper, for a moment it stands up after it is burnt; then you touch it and it crumbles.
I saw the whole world crumble behind me and all I had was nothing. I had to leave all of it in the world. I couldn't even tell my mother 'bye', I was dead! I was dead!
And I started crying, saying, 'LORD, I don't want to die, I don't want to die, I can still box'.... and I was talking to GOD....' I can still box!'
GOD said ' I don't want your money, I want you.' "
At this point Georges friends and trainers got him off the floor and onto the table where the sensations of meeting JESUS and feeling the pains of HIS death carried on.
"So I lay on the table, I'm coming back into my body, and I tell one of my doctors to move his hand because the thrones were making me bleed on his hand. And blood started running down my face.
And I told the one to move his hand because on my hands and feet there was blood. All the places where JESUS had blood when HE died.
I had never believed in JESUS. I wasn't going to go for it.
I never would have, but let me tell you JESUS is alive.
And I started screaming, ' JESUS CHRIST come to life!'
And I walked out of that room.... jumped off that table... and headed for a cold shower 'cause that is the last thing you would ask me to do after a fight.
I started screaming words like, ' Hallelujah I've been born again!'
They thought I was crazy and hurt, so they took me to the hospital. They thought I was loosing my mind.
And they ran all kinda tests on me for two or three days and nothing was wrong with me. But I saw the glory of GOD.... I saw it!
And let me tell that JESUS is alive.... there's a living GOD and I didn't know it. I was wondering about it before but now I'm not wondering, I know!
And I thank GOD because there's a lot of people who think sor sure..... and some thnk maybe or maybe not. But I know. GOD... I don't know.... for some reason touched me, an old sinner.
There's a lot of clean men out in the world doing everything right and HE showed me that there's a living GOD.
Since then I've been telling everybody! I don't care where you come from or what your'e doing, stop it and learn about GOD and the Bible.
And why GOD did this to me, I don't know, but I just praise HIM everyday. I dropped everything I was doing to tell the whole world that JESUS CHRIST is alive.
GOD took me all over the country fighting, and I was just trying to exalt George Foreman. Now I'm going all over to try to tell them about JESUS!'
George Foreman went on to become an ordained minister and for ten years left boxing to preach the Gospel.
On March 9, 1987 he returned to the ring to raise money for a youth center he started in Houston Texas.
In 1994, at the age of 45, this ordained minister won the WBC Heavyweight Championship, becoming the oldest man in history to capture the title.
Last I heard, (and I haven't been trying to find out anything) was seven years after winning the title he is still active in the ring and outside of it.
Being a Christian isn't about being a goody two shoes, nor is it about giving up all of your world stuff and living in poverty.
It is about life, a peace filled happy, overflowing life and having more of it.
In George Foreman's Case:
1. He asked GOD to use him in a capacity other than a boxer. GOD did it and George lost to Jimmy Young.
2.George had to know the truth and he met JESUS CHRIST who is alive.
3. George was given (blessed) with great happiness and peace that he had never known before.
4. George was so overwhelmed that he stopped his career and went out to tell others about what GOD had done for him.
5.GOD brought George back into the ring by George needing to raise money for the Youth Center. GOD could have used another means, but HE had a deeper plan for George.
6.George not only raised the money, but wanted George to have the WBC Heavyweight Championship because George had asked HIM first to use him as something else besides a boxer. (see #1) GOD gave him the title.
7.GOD not only gave him the title, but wanted to show HIS love to George, that the title became twofold. The title itself and also the distinction of being the oldest man in history to do so.Also the longest period between holding the titles, twenty years.
If GOD was willing to show a man who had a chip on his shoulder and was a bully, all this and give him the choice of believing or not, think of what HE can and will do for you if you ask and allow HIM to work you through everything.
GOD loves you like HE does George Foreman and me and my pastor and everybody.
HE loves you so much that HE arranged that HIS only son should be brutally put to death to take your punishment so GOD wouldn't have to punish you for your sins.
Just ask GOD to help you.

Just what is power?
That can mean just about anything. Power as in electricity, power as in strength, power as in ability to accomplish something.
It could also be power in knowledge, or in the charisma of a person, or in the power to love.
The power from HOLY SPIRIT covers all the above except maybe electricity, however if you have ever been suddenly filled by HOLY SPIRIT or a revealation it may just feel like electricity coursing through you.
I have come across a site that I feel will go forward with power from HOLY SPIRIT. This site is aimed at bringing GOD'S word and the love of JESUS to those on the internet.
